This is TUPADO’s foundational program and defines the organization’s core mandate. The livestock program focuses on building the capacity of pastoralists through training on proper livestock husbandry practices and providing extension education on livestock disease diagnosis and prevention. It also includes public sensitization on livestock disease outbreaks and reporting mechanisms.
To improve the quality and productivity of local breeds, the program supports livestock cross-breeding through the distribution of Galla bucks and Blackhead Persian rams. Agro-pastoralists are trained on fodder production, hay harvesting, and rangeland reseeding to enhance feed availability and livestock productivity. Communities are also supported to adopt climate-smart rangeland management practices, such as deferred grazing arrangements, to ensure adequate feed across seasons.
